Ep. 31 - Rounds and Partner Songs – Part 2

Welcome to Episode 31 of the Welcome to Music Podcast!

In Part 2 of our Rounds & Partner Songs series, Susie continues exploring fun and accessible ways to introduce children to singing in parts, while taking a musical journey around the world.

We begin with Everybody Loves Saturday Night, a lively folk song associated with West Africa that can be sung as a round and explored in many different languages. Next, we travel to Japan with Kaeru No Uta (The Frog Song), a cheerful and well-known Japanese children's song. Its simple, repetitive melody and wonderfully playful frog sounds make it a delightful introduction to singing in Japanese and singing in a round.

Finally, we explore the Gospel Medley, bringing together four wonderful songs: I'm Gonna Sing, Up Above My Head, Oh When the Saints and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Each song can be learned separately before gradually combining them as partner songs. Along the way, Susie shares practical ideas for developing children's vocal confidence, listening skills, harmony and musical independence, while experiencing the joy of making music together.
